inspiration:

my friend Taylor just launched a brand new bone broth protein powder line and her chocolate flavor was calling my name. I love chocolate paired with toasted coconut and decided to pair them up. coffee is a great ingredient and won’t make the milkshake necessarily taste like coffee, but accentuates the flavor of chocolate, big time! you can add some leftover coffee from your morning pot in to add dimension and flavor. Plus, we have *two* secret veggie ingredients to make the milkshake super frothy, thick and decadent.

smoothie ingredients:

hopefully, you’ll be able to find most of these ingredients lurking in your pantry and freezer.

  • toasted coconut: you can buy pre-toasted coconut or toast it on your own on a sheet pan in the oven at 375 degrees until lightly browned and fragrant, 5-7 minutes.
  • frozen cauliflower florets: adds nutrients and thickens but doesn’t influence the flavor.
  • brewed coffee: decaf or caffeinated will work lovely- we are mainly looking for a hint of coffee flavor to accentuate the chocolate.
  • maple syrup: adds the perfect sweetness and lovely flavor to complement the coconut and chocolate.
  • chocolate protein powder: I’m loving this one from Taylor dukes wellness.
  • collagen: for healthy hair, skin and nails as well as joint health. this is my current favorite brand
  • fresh avocado: this healthy dose of fat adds richness and depth of flavor. it is also necessary for the ice cream-like texture.
  • nut milk: you can use your favorite- I love three trees brand the best in terms of cleaner ingredients and great taste. you can use almond milk, coconut milk or raw cow’s milk.
  • flavorings: pure vanilla extract and salt amplify the flavors. Don’t skip these- they truly enhance all the ingredients.
