New Beach House Makeover

I grew up visiting Galveston- a little coastal resort island off the southeast texas coast. my father’s father and step mother had two adjacent vacation homes on pirate’s beach and we were fortunate enough to visit every summer for an extended family vacation.

my childhood beach memories included treating jellyfish stings with meat tenderizer, hunting for sand crabs under the glow of the summer moon, enjoying fried oyster po-boys on the seawall and having popsicles drip down our arms while sitting on the balcony in the salty beach air.

My father with my sweet younger cousins after a nightly sand crab hunt.

a couple months after we lost my father to heart disease, (its been almost 10 months now), we returned to Galveston with his brother’s family and his sister. the nostalgia of my childhood came flooding back. a couple months later, my mom made the exciting decision to jump on a beautiful new home to invest in on the same pirate’s beach. we are truly excited to create new memories there with my son. follow below as I show you the *after* and don’t forget to scroll all the way to the end to see the *before.*

in the subsequent months, we redecorate the already furnished home and transform it to a waterside sanctuary that was a little more our style. We focus on a color palette of airy blues and greens, a lot of texture and subtle beach-themed additions. we upcycled items we already had, sold some items, donated items and bought new at some local furniture shops.

living room:

our living room area is surrounded around many blue and green tones, a faux fiddle tree and greenery wreath, some neutral colored trending armchairs, upcycled chairs from my home and a whimsical oversized pictorial rug. we focused the living room around a large blue heron painting surrounded by brass sconces and an updated modern sofa.

MASTER bedROOM:

WE WERE WANTING THE MASTER FOR MY MOM TO HAVE A TRANQUIL FEELING AS WELL AS AN ADDITION OF LUXURY. my mom fell in love with bedding from a local furniture shop and we added it to the neutral bedroom set that was already included with the home. lamps, linens and artwork were also swapped for a cool and airy aura.

Olive green, grey & taupe are the color palette for the master.
An oversized luxe swivel chair was added with a cozy rug and a decorative heron lamp from a local furniture shop.

guest bedroom:

the guest bedroom was more of a process. my mom has beautiful linens she’s collected for decades and we went back and forth on a look and color palette.  we added some simple art, an industrial hanging mirror and a cozy rug. the swivel chair was repurposed from the living room and we also added some new decor pillows. I will likely add some artwork above the bed eventually- but we haven’t rushed that process.

Corals, cornflower blue and white create the color palette.
The cornflower blue are vintage Ralph Lauren linens from my childhood.
Cozy little nook in the guest room.

main bathroom:

we loved the tiles and natural light in the main bathroom. WE SIMPLY ADDED SOME blue and white DECOR AND LINENS.

master bathroom:

we liked the geometric tile and lighting in both bathrooms so we simply added linens and decor. We tried to soften the geometric pattern in the master bathroom with blush/coral linens and decor.

kitchen:

the kitchen design was clean and simple and we wanted to keep it that way. we all know how kitchens can become chaotic with children and traveling, right? ha. we left the barstools and lighting then added a few decor touches.

We kept the kitchen clean & simple.

dining room:

we were originally going to replace the dining table as my mom was worried it wouldn’t fit enough people. once we found a leaf insert, we decided to keep it but replaced the lighting, removed the rug and added decorative touches.

We replaced the original lighting, (don't worry, the ceiling was eventually repainted 🙂
This antique red console table was repurposed from our original home and we added new decor.

bunk room:

the bunk room has two sets of bunk beds and we thought the original bedding was so cute so we simply added some wall art and throw pillows. the fishbone lamp was originally in the living room but we thought it fit better in the kiddos room. the decor pillows and vintage plate installation on the wall were all from a local shop in galveston. we will eventually add a rug in here as well.

This chrome lamp pairing used to be in the kids room at my parents' original lake house.

patio:

the upper patio was a blank canvas and we had fun mixing and matching. all of the furniture was purchased online. the little white & blue striped coffee table was a random vintage find from bayside chic in galveston and we fell in love.

Our only trip to Galveston before my father passed. We miss him so much.
