I wanted to share them with you because I wish I was able to see someone else’s playbook before I started this journey. Although every person is so different with lifestyle and genetic factors, my daily 8 prove beneficial with almost anybody and everybody. Let me know if you are already doing some of these things! *disclaimer: I am not a doctor, nor do I claim to be. I’m just living proof of these things changing my life.

Eight items I consume daily to feel great, help me detox, reduce inflammation, prevent aging and balance hormones.

warm lemon water:

warm lemon water upon waking has many benefits to starting your day. warm lemon water is linked to detoxifying organs, de-bloating the stomach, reducing inflammation, flushing toxins and aiding in digestion.

i personally boil 1.5 cups of filtered water and add it to a mug with the juice of 1/2 organic lemon and i add the lemon itself to the mug too. cover with a saucer to steep and drink ideally 30 minutes before breakfast.

Warm lemon water helps flush out toxins and detoxify your organs.

120-150 grams of protein:

getting substantial protein in my diet is essential to how I’m feeling. food is what fuels us and is one of the largest factors in preventing or even treating disease. substantial protein helps with gaining lean muscle mass, keeping you fuller, longer, helps with fat burning, weight loss, lowering of blood pressure and helps prevent issues with aging.

the proteins we eat the most often are: pastured eggs, wild salmon, ground turkey, ground beef, wild mahi mahi, wild cod and nuts. I personally consume between 120-150 grams of protein daily and I have many sample “what I eat in a day” reels on my instagram page.

Did you know that most people, (especially women), aren't getting near enough daily protein?

bulletproof coffee:

although caffeine can also be troublesome for some, the benefits of caffeine in small amounts are also abundant. coffee can aid in healthy brain support, increased energy levels, supporting organ health and increasing longevity. in an effort to keep my cortisol levels in check, I also make sure to add healthy fats and protein to my coffee. the result is a frothy and delicious coffee shop-type latte that I enjoy every single morning.

make sure to find a coffee that’s mold free and without mycotoxins. I use Purity Coffee which is also organic. here is my classic bulletproof recipe along with my holiday peppermint mocha version. stay tuned in a few weeks for a delicious autumn bulletproof recipe edition!

hormone balancing foods:

I’ve most recently been introducing hormone-balancing foods on my wellness journey. did you know that women thrive when they introduce different items in different parts of their cycles? women have four different monthly stages: menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, luteal. luteal, for example, is the stage after ovulation that is often met with mood swings, “PMs” symptoms and more. although these symptoms are very common, they are not normal.

I began experiencing mood swings in this phase after having my son 3 years ago and it’s usually due to a hormonal imbalance, (lack of sleep and high cortisol didn’t help either). the luteal phase is a good time to try out that lower intensity workout, be gentle with yourself, and make sure you are eating complex carbs and cruciferous vegetables to help with mood and excess estrogen levels. My acupuncturist in Austin is a wealth of knowledge on the subject of balancing hormones. if you live in Austin, she’s an amazing resource.

for my particular case with hormone balancing, I’m on a daily protocol of a few thingS:

  • warm lemon water upon waking
  • a daily raw unpeeled organic carrot
  • daily roasted cruciferous vegetables (such as cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels or cabbage)
  • daily omega 3’s
  • broth based soups or bone broths
  • on certain days in my cycle, she also has me eating certain “cooling foods, “warming foods,” and blood building foods.
everyone’s journey will be different than mine but I wanted to post examples. if you want to read more about eating for your cycle, here are a few instagram accounts I’ve found to be wealths of information:

I've recently been eating foods to help balance hormones naturally.

*all* of the healthy fats:

omega 3 fatty-acids, (also referred to as healthy fats), are fats that may help promote brain and heart health, reduce inflammation, and protect against several chronic conditions. they are pivotal during pregnancy for brain health and can even aid in adhd symptoms for young children. they can be linked to Alzheimer’s and cancer prevention, alleviating PMS symptoms, and even improving skin health and sleep. for me, those benefits are a no brainer. my daily favorites are in a fish oil supplement along with sliced avocado, raw cashews, Brazil nuts and castelvetrano olives.

My favorite daily healthy fats include raw cashews, castelvetrano olives and avocado.

electrolytes with filtered water:

many common symptoms of dehydration are fatigue, inflammation, mood swings and unfortunately, water does not hydrate alone. it also needs potassium, magnesium and salt to truly hydrate. single serve electrolytes are a great way to get these missing nutrients. Just make sure to check the ingredients- sugar is a common culprit that does way more harm than good. I love these electrolytes and my husband loves these the most.

Most Americans are dehydrated and don't even know it- water alone doesn't cut it.

collagen:

achy joints? you probably need collagen. Need to add protein to your diet? collagen. want to prevent wrinkles? collagen is your gal. Want vibrant skin, hair and nails? Yep, you guessed it. powdered bovine collagen is also easily mixed into your favorite warm drinks. it’s an ingredient in my bulletproof coffee and I always add it to smoothies or chia pudding. this is my preferred brand.

Collagen helps with hair, skin, nails and with preventative aging as well as joint health.

a lil' treat:

of course, I’m a firm believer in treating yourself. I also try to do it in a way that will support my wellness and promote healthy blood sugar levels. I’ve been baking some of my paleo treats lately or fun plays on nostalgic treats- but made with cleaner ingredients. I always try to opt for natural sweeteners in my treats over processed refined sugar. I then try to pair the natural sugars with healthy fats like nuts, nut butter or coconut oil. I’ll also try to either eat it right after a protein-rich dinner or alongside protein like protein powder in my blueberry muffin protein smoothie or nuts like in these delicious chocolate-covered cashew hunks, (shown below)

A sweet treat like this in the evening followed by magnesium glycinate for sleep and I’m off to a blood sugar-balanced slumber.

Balancing natural sugars with healthy fats or proteins helps keep blood sugar stable.

I hope this post has provided some inspiration for your daily routine. if you already do a lot of these things- tell me what I’m missing out on! I’m always down for a new wellness hack. xoxo- Callie
