I adore the classic combination of chocolate with fresh cherries and my first test of this recipe knocked my socks off. it tastes exactly like a chocolate covered cherry in smoothie form. I’ve also added nourishing and protein-rich ingredients as well as a fun garnish for some valentine’s nostalgia. enjoy as a breakfast or snack with your sweetie and enjoy these delish frosty vibes!
inspiration:
my husband recently cut out caffeine and I’ve been enjoying experimenting with smoothie combinations. chocolate-covered strawberries can be a bit overdone during Valentine’s so I settled on a decadent chocolate-covered cherry protein smoothie. the smoothie is reminiscent in texture of a famous chocolate frosty from Wendy’s but made with nourishing ingredients. the frozen dark cherries add a cold, fruity and slushy addition to the chocolate notes.
smoothie ingredients:
hopefully, you’ll be able to find most of these ingredients lurking in your pantry and freezer.
- frozen dark cherries: the star of the show- I also buy some fresh cherries to garnish the smoothie with.
- dark cacao powder: our chocolate addition in the recipe. cacao powder is amazing in helping regulate blood sugars, aids in digestion and contains a significant does of magnesium.
- vanilla protein powder: my current favorite is found here.
- collagen: for healthy hair, skin and nails as well as joint health.
- almond butter: this healthy dose of fat adds richness and depth of flavor.
- nut milk: you can use your favorite- I love three trees brand the best in terms of cleaner ingredients and great taste. you can use almond milk, coconut milk or raw cow’s milk.
- flavorings: pure vanilla and pure almond extract amplify the flavor along with a pinch of salt. Don’t skip these- they truly enhance all the ingredients.
