They learn it through co-regulation which is borrowing a steady adult’s nervous system until they are able to steady their own. The part of the brain that handles impulse control and emotional regulation (the prefrontal cortex) doesn’t finish developing until the mid-20s. Until then, it’s up to us and it matters long term🧠 So when he melts down and we are able to take a breath first, it’s showing him how to do the same✨🫶🏻 Have you tried this?
