To be fair, Mary Margaret was an OG 80’s Austin Mom shopping Wheatsville Co-Op, Texas French Bread and Central Market because back then- she still knew that ingredients mattered 👏🏻

But what she bought in the 80’s is completely different than what it is today. 5 ingredient lists on food packages have now turned to 40 ingredient lists.

The respect my mom has for our food choices is certainly evident when we open her pantry, and I’m so grateful for that support!🫶🏻

5 Ways to SHAKE UP Mealtime if you notice your kiddos becoming more particular with foods🥦🍎🍠

Coming from a mom with a baby who used to eat *everything*. First of all, I want to add that all I’ve learned about baby-led weaning is from @solidstarts and I will forever be indebted to them.

My son just turned 4 and has shown more particular eating interests especially the last 6-8 months. Here are some tips I’ve been using to try to expand his palette in a non-threatening or pressured way. I hope they help!

🍋‍🟩Make it INTERACTIVE- add in something like a lime wedge to squeeze, something to pour or sprinkle.

🥣Add in something NEW- utilize a new fun plate, place mat or even a new food to try.

🥭Always include SAFE FOODS- always including t least 2 foods that I know my son loves and enjoys always takes the pressure off when I’m introducing a new food or something out of his comfort zone.

☀️Change the ENVIRONMENT- make a plate to eat outside, have a picnic on the floor, etc.

🐠Don’t assume your child won’t WANT something- on one particular evening last week, I was wiped and didn’t have the energy to work on these tips for dinner. I made my son a quesadilla with fruit and avocado.

Later, I heated up leftover salmon with rice and asparagus in the air fryer. After eating his own dinner, he walked over to my bowl showing interest to try, “the green things.” It was the first time I purchased asparagus for the season and he proceeded to eat several bites including salmon, rice and radish. It was a great reminder to me to never assume he won’t be interested in something new.
